Mey Vega, PDX Employee of the Month (September)
In an active warehouse like ours, one department can quickly become busier than they were just moments before. When that inevitable happens, it’s great to have people like Yermey (Mey) Vega on your team. While his primary role at Houston’s is an Overflow Driver, he frequently lends a hand in Receiving, pulling orders, or in any other area he’s asked to help out.
“Mey is a reliable employee, he comes ready to work everyday. On any given day Mey is often asked to change tasks frequently, helping with receiving, auto stocking, or pulling orders. Every time I ask him to help a different department he always has a positive attitude about it,” said Brenda Hart, Receiving Supervisor.
Doing multiple things throughout the day is one of Mey’s favorite things about his job as it helps the day go by faster. He enjoys everybody’s company, and says the hours are great too. Getting off before 3 pm on most days allows him to spend more time with his two kids; a son (11 years old) and daughter (8 years old).
When he’s away from work, Mey enjoys taking his kids out for adventures on the weekends to places such as Oaks Park or to the beach. He really likes going to Astoria and stopping by Tillamook to get his daughter ice cream from the Tillamook Ice Cream Shop. It’s her favorite thing to do. Mey’s family also took a vacation to Lincoln City in June and enjoyed some nice relaxing time at the beach. When no visiting fun destinations, Mey enjoys cooking. He actually cooked at a Mexican restaurant for six years before he started with Houston’s. Mey has also started teaching his son to cook, and he’s catching on quickly. He even recently grilled up a lot of tacos on a flattop grill for a large baby shower.
Mey also enjoys teaching his son to play soccer and they like watching Mexican soccer teams together. His two kids keep him on his toes, especially when they are in competition with each other over new toys or presents. They are even planning out their outside play areas in their future new home.
