Cheryl Ellington, Senior HR HTRANS Generalist, has been described as compassionate, empathetic, and dedicated. These qualities, coupled with a positive presence, have earned Cheryl the recognition as Wilsonville Employee of the Quarter for Q1, 2022.
The past quarter has seen no shortage of activity within Human Resources: a visit to KC, personnel changes in the department, open enrollment period for employee benefits, and uncertainty with a new COVID variant. Through it all, Cheryl has risen to meet the challenges.
“Cheryl Ellington has quickly made her mark at Houston’s, and in all the best ways,” noted one department head. “She brings the ‘human’ to Human Resources by making real connections with employees, and has been consistently complimented for her pleasant interactions with others.”
In October, Cheryl was able to take part in a trip out to Kansas City. While on the visit, Cheryl was able to work with the KC HTRANS team, as well as the warehouse crew. Additionally, she was instrumental in helping to set up an improved on-site Employee Resource Center.
The Resource Center provides an area for employees to gain access to computers and printers, as well as a space to review company benefit information, such as medical coverage and 401K web resources.
With the HR Department being short-handed, Cheryl, along with Human Resources Coordinator Vidi Solis, have worked diligently to ensure there is no gap in support for all Houston’s and HTRANS employees. One nominator recognized the increased workload while continuing to see both maintain great attitudes.
“Cheryl has taken on progressively more work throughout the year and has been a steadying influence in the HR department during a tumultuous year,” another nominator said.
“She does a great job on the recruiting front and has helped fill numerous previously hard to fill positions,” another added.
It’s clear that Cheryl sets a high bar for herself. She is responsible for doing a little bit of everything within the department, though connecting with people and helping with questions and concerns is what she’s described as her favorite duty.
Outside of work, Cheryl likes to read, listen to music, and go on camping trips.
“We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and I love to get out in it and breath the fresh air and enjoy nature,” Cheryl said.
She is also an automotive enthusiast, professing a love of fast cars. Perhaps this connection is why she possesses the “drive” to operate with such dedication for Houston’s and HTRANS people.
In the words of one department head, “she’s cool, collected, and quite knowledgeable of all things F1 racing, so if you need some support, or just like to go fast, speak to Cheryl!”
