We are proud to announce that the February Employee of the Month for the Portland Warehouse is Cody Hart!

Cody Hart, 2017 February Employee of the Month

Cody joined Houston’s in April of 2014 as part of the swing shift, as an order puller. He is now our Inventory Controller, making sure all our pick slots counts are right on, new product has a pick slot, product is in the right location, and more.

When Cody isn’t at work, he enjoys hiking and hunting, particularly at Detroit Lake in Oregon. Last year he got his first deer, weighing about 72 pounds! He also really enjoys photography; he recently got a new wide-angle lens so he can get some better landscape shots and waterfalls and sunsets at the coast.

If anyone went to Cody today and asked him about the best dollar I’ve ever spent, he would not hesitate to
say, “It was the time Greg paid me to shut up.” Cody, his father, and I were hiking the Echo Basin Trail when Cody was about 9 or 10. Cody was excited to go, but not far into the hike he began to gripe, and after a time I told Cody I would pay him a dollar if he would pull it together for the rest of the hike. Suddenly, he was excited about the hike again, and even in the steep parts he held his own. Occasionally he would say something like “I’m really tired…but I’m not complaining.” Still the best dollar I’ve ever spent.

Not long ago, we promoted Cody to “Sherpa” as he learned to pack out our game on hunting trips, but last year he was promoted to “Super Sherpa” as we had to pack out his.

These days, it’s Cody that is the trail master. It’s common for me to hear stories when I come in Monday about another trail that he hiked over the weekend, and it’s not going to be long before he surpasses me on the number of hikes and distances he has done. One thing that people may not know about Cody is that he is a great photographer, and many of his pictures that he returns with from his hikes are stunning, and are worthy of print in any outdoor magazine.
