It all began in 1814, the first record of Wüsthof as a knife-making company in Solingen, Germany, the “City of Blades.”  In the 1960s and 1970s, sixth-generation Wolfgang Wüsthof worked diligently to expand his family’s knife business to the United States, eventually founding Wüsthof-Trident of America.  Now, nearly two centuries later, Wüsthof is still going strong, manufacturing knives for personal and commercial use world-wide, with as much as 50% of their business attributed to purchases in the US.  A family-owned business for seven generations, Wüsthof is an employee-friendly, eco-conscious company that strives for superiority in the market.

Many of our own Houston’s employees received special training conducted by Wüsthof’s National Accounts/Western Sales Manager Mark Beckman and local rep Antoinette D’Ambrosio of iSell Solutions.  The training was intended to familiarize our staff with the Wüsthof “Classic” and “Pro” lines.

Wüsthof Classic is a line comprised of fully forged knives.  Each knife is manufactured from one piece of high carbon, stain-free German steel.  The process takes about two full days to create a single knife.  After a series of steps, including heating the steel and pushing the thumb guard into place and machine-sharpening the blade, the consumer is rewarded with a full-tang, triple-riveted, well-balanced knife with a comfortable polypropylene handle.  The Classic line is Wüsthof’s most popular seller.

Seeing a need, though, to accommodate the commercial markets, Wüsthof set out to create a commercial-grade product that could be offered at a commodity price.  They have accomplished this through the creation of their Pro line.  Although the steel is the same as that used for the Classic line, the construction process varies sharply.  The shape of the knife is stamped and then laser-cut from a large sheet of metal.  This half-tang knife has an injection-molded handle which is heat-sealed to the blade for durability and stability, and the high-polished blade helps reduce friction on food for speed in your commercial kitchen.

With many knives to choose from across the two lines, Houston’s is equipped to meet your customers’ needs.  And if we don’t stock it, don’t worry…We can get it for you, all you need to do is ask!
