non_dairy_beverage_marquee_01When it comes to choosing a dairy free alternative sometimes the sea of options can seem vast depending on your needs. It is common to see numerous restaurants and coffee shops offering alternatives to dairy so that more consumers can enjoy their products. Many people are going dairy free whether it be because they are vegan, lactose intolerant, have an allergy, or simply as a preference. Though there isn’t just the simple choice of soymilk anymore, there are many options—almond, hemp, hazelnut, coconut, oat, and seven grain to name a few. It is important to know the attributes of the different types of products out on the market. For example, coconut milk is on the creamy side making it a good substitute for cream or whole milk. While almond milk adds a subtle roasted flavor to your beverages, hemp milk can make pancakes fluffier and acts more like dairy milk in baking, according to Pacific Foods.

Milk consumption has been on a steady decline in the market for the past 20 years dropping 25% from 1975-2012, while the plant-based dairy alternatives have averaged annual sales growth of 10.9% since 1999, according to Time. Even popular coffee shops have added other alternatives to dairy besides soy in recent years— Starbuck has added coconut milk and Dunkin’ Doughnuts has added almond milk.

Houston’s recently added a new dairy alternative vendor to our suppliers, Pacific Foods. At Pacific Foods they holds their ingredients to high standards, tracing the origin of every natural and organic ingredient used in their foods. Pacific Foods is also a big supporter of the Non-GMO project, steering clear of additives, preservatives and common allergens. We are pleased to offer a wide variety of their dairy alternatives, which include—Almond Original, Almond Vanilla, Hemp Chocolate, Hemp Original, Hemp Vanilla, Rice Original, and Rice Vanilla Beverages.

We are also stocking their Barista Series™, available exclusively to specialty coffee and foodservice distributors. The Barista Series™ is specially formulated to withstand high temperatures and deliver consistently smooth, velvety microfoam, perfect for latte art, according to Pacific Foods. The Barista Series™ is available in Almond Original, Coconut Original, Soy Original, Soy Vanilla, and Chai Latte Beverages.

So many options to choose from, what product will you add Pacific Foods dairy alternative beverages to?
